9 hidden features in iOS 6

iOS 6 iconiOS 6 is out now and it comes with a ton of new features. With over 200 new features, it's difficult to find and try them all out for yourself. While most of the major features have been covered by Apple in their iOS launch keynote, there are still some pretty useful and handy features that you may not have known about.
While some users may be disappointed that there aren't many radical new features in iOS 6, the features that Apple did include add polish and usability to an already fantastic mobile operating system.
Below you'll find some of my favorite hidden features that are buried in iOS 6. Have an iOS 6 hidden feature or tip that's not listed here?
Tell us in the comments below.

1) Play with the world in Maps

ios 6 globeMaps is a major feature in iOS 6. iPhone users will finally get a native maps app that supports turn-by-turn navigation. It's amazing that Apple has taken this long to implement turn-by-turn navigation. Maps also bring 3D and satellite imagery. Select cities are fully rendered in 3D for you to explore.
What you may not have known is that if you keep zooming out, you will eventually see a globe of the world. You can interact with the globe but will have to zoom in to see points of interest. This globe view reminds me of Google Earth, but without the huge database of information. Maps is still a new product from Apple so future releases will improve its usability.

2) Panorama feature is not iPhone 5 exclusive

Panorama mode will work in both the iPhone 4S and the 5th generation iPod Touch. Devices that feature dual-core processors are technically able to take panoramas but Apple has decided to leave this feature out the iPad, which is probably for the best. Lifting a heavy iPad while spinning around isn't the most ideal way to take a panorama!

3) Insert pictures in Mail

ios 6 insert pictures in mailUsers can now attach photos from within the Mail app instead of having to attach photos from the Photos app. Tap on the body of an email and you'll be given a toolbar with options to copy, paste, select, and inserting photos or video. This is definitely handy and should have been included from the beginning.

4) Upload videos to YouTube

iOS 6 YouTube uploadThe original YouTube app was removed from iOS 6 but you can still upload your videos to YouTube. From the Photos app, hit the share button and you'll be given options to share to different applications, including YouTube. Log in with your credentials, write a description, and upload your video. There is an official YouTube app for iPhone users but iPad owners will have to wait for Google to release an iPad specific YouTube app.

5) Email account specific signatures

iOS 6 email signaturesThis feature is handy for those who send a lot of emails from their iOS device. Users now have the option to enable different signatures for different email accounts. This is handy if you want different signatures for your personal and work mail.

6) Updated Clock app

ipad clock appNew for iPad users is the Clock app. iPad users can view world clocks, set alarms, use the stopwatch, or use the timer. Alarms are now more customizable with the ability to set alarms for specific days instead of only having the option for weekdays and weekends. Your alarms will be placed in a calendar for a better visual representation.

7) Delete music from iTunes Match

iOS 6 delete musiciTunes Match is a great service that allows you to match the tracks from your music library to tracks in the iTunes store. This means you can download any track you already own from iTunes, free of charge, if you pay for the iTunes Match service. If you have multiple devices, these matched tracks will populate with music you may not have wanted. Now in iOS 6, you have the ability to delete artists and individual tracks. Just wipe from left to right to activate the delete button.

8) Access Siri and Passbook from lockscreen

siri passbook lockscreenIf you have a lockscreen password, Siri and Passbook are locked out by default. You can enable them to be used if you don't want to have to unlock your phone to use these features. Navigate to Settings > General > Passcode to view the toggles for Siri, Passbook, and Picture Frame for the iPad.

9) Opt out of targeted advertising

limit ad trackingPerhaps the most interesting hidden feature of iOS 6, 'Limit Ad Tracking' allows users to opt out of targeted advertising. For a more in-depth look at this feature, be sure to read the post where I teach you how to enable it.
Update: Corrected information about deleting music from iTunes Match.
